R.I.P. Blogger

So I haven't posted anything in awhile. That would be because I have moved blog homes. I'm not using tumblr. It fits my blog needs much more then Blogger. It's structure is similar to Twitter. It's based more on mini posts that can consist of text, photos, videos, audio, and quotes. A major plus is that tumblr released an iPhone app. I can make a blog post from my phone whenever I see a cool photo or just have something i would like to share.

Blogger has served me well, but I'm not much of a writer, or that great of one rather. So I'll probably be deleting this blog soon. Check out my new blog at www.doingtheordinary.tumblr.com. I post my artwork, music, and much more. What are you waiting for?! See what I've been up to.

It's Hailey's Birthday!

There's no art in this post. I don't have anything to show. My first project is actually do tomorrow, WHICH I probably should be working on, but for some reason I felt compelled to write. I feel like I've got a lot going on at the moment, and I guess in some ways I've been struggling to keep up and handle it all, more-so mentally then physically. This is a busy time in my life. I'm a year away from graduating college, Lord willing, and I've got to find an internship for the summer, I'll have to find a place to stay, and I really should take some summer classes. There is more, but school is one of my main concerns at this moment in time.

How have I been dealing with the stress? Well, I've started up running again. I haven't been running consistently since my senior year in high school. I started really slow, but I'm to the point now where I can run about three miles before I completely give out. I feel pretty accomplished about that, especially considering my first night of running I didn't even finish a mile. I'm also very excited to use this new application I have. It's called RunKeeper. It's an application that uses the GPS in my phone, and it keeps up with my mileage, time, pace, and so on. I'm a nerd, but I'm looking forward to putting it to use.

Speaking of my phone, I have a new phone. I finally got my iPhone I've been wanting forever. I love it. It's amazing, and probably the greatest phone ever. Anyway, I'll move on from my phone.

I've decided that I've lost a bit of my creativity. When doing work for school or just for fun, I feel a lack of ideas. I need to go back to what I used to do and how I used to be. I need to start writing music and doodling whenever I can. I use to always be doing one of those two things, and I feel that is what I need. When I do work or projects, I don't seem to enjoy them. I don't doubt that I'm following the wrong career path, I just feel that I've become lazy. Not only have I become lazy in my art, but I feel lazy in life. I've realized I don't always make an effort, weather it's in my relationship, friendships, or anything else. I'm a lazy individual, and I've become to hate it.

Well, going back to my internship, I think I've decided that Dallas has a lot of opportunities. There a couple of really cool design firms that I would love to work with this summer. One is called One Fast Buffalo. They have done some really awesome work, and it looks like they have a really cool work environment. Another place I've looked at is called El Creative. I'm interested in an internship there for the same reasons as the other firm. So I've found some places, now all I have to do is send them some of my work and see what happens. Hopefully, it will all work out.

I really don't think that there is a whole lot more to say. Well, I'm sure there is, but it's not blog worthy or something I don't really care for everyone to read about and whatnot. Even though there is a lot going on, I'm happy.  I have a lot of good things going for me. Lets just hope it stays that way.

Ode To CJ

Well, I felt like posting some more things, but these images I'm going to post are really anything new. These are things I've done a over time for my good friend, CJ Carr. He's always wanting me to Photoshop him into photos, and that's perfectly fine, because I love to do it. Some of the stuff he asked me to do and, and others are stuff I've just done for fun. I even make an appearance in one of them. Enjoy.

What I've Done Over the Past Few Months

I've not done much since November. I've not had much of anything to show, but a new semester has started. I will hopefully have some new, wonderfully awesome things to show to the blog world. For right now though, I thought I would post a few things I've done since the last thing I've posted.

Alright, so this is some of the work I did for the North Blvd. Church of Christ youth group back home. The first thing is did is a cover for what the youth minister, David Skidmore, calls "Skid Notes". On the back of the cover will be an outline of the pervious bible study they've just learned about, and they will be handed out to all the teens in the youth group. The next thing I did for the youth group was create a poster for their upcoming bible series called "What's In Your Locker?".

The most recent thing I've designed was for the CAB on campus. They wanted a poster to promote an upcoming weekend where they were showing a couple of movies on campus. This was a bit of a last minute thing. I was asked to do this at about 11 o'clock the night before they needed it. So needless to say, this probably isn't by best work...or maybe it is.

Christmas Time Is Here?

I don't know about you, but I feel like everyone is putting out everything Christmas very early this year. Then again, maybe it's just me. But anyway, what I'm trying to say is that I've not been much in the Christmas mood. I mean it's not even been Thanksgiving yet! However tonight, all that has changed.

As I was reading my music news, which I do a lot, I came across a story about a new animated Relient K video. I love Relient K! Come to find out, it was for a song that was on their Christmas album. I love their Christmas album! It's called Let It Snow... Let It Reindeer, and it's one of my all time favorite Christmas albums. Check it out! Their new video was really fun, and it definitely got me ready for the holidays. So I decided to post it. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

Ice Cream I Can't Pronounce and the Smell of Soap

Why, hello! It's been awhile since I've posted anything, but that's due to the fact that my life has been quite busy recently. I've been trying my best to keep up and finish what is needed to be done. So far... so good, but let me show you a couple of things I've been working on the past few weeks.

The first thing I'm going to post is a logo I made for my 2-D Design class. We split into groups and had to come up with an area or room where someone or a group of people could be creative. The group I was in decided to come up with a place where anyone could come in and have some fun. We ended up creating a ice cream shop.We called our shop Jäätelöä, which is Finnish for ice cream. We had things set up in an assembly line format. People can go through, pick any type of ice cream they want, add any toppings, and have fun with it. Sounds like a great place, don't you think?

The next thing I had to do was for Graphic Design I. For this project, we had to create packaging for a bar of soap. We had to come up with a concept and create a professional looking package for it.  The idea I came up with was called RISE Energy Soap.

I thing about this project is that it turned out almost nothing like I had planed for it to, but I don't think it turned out too bad. How I come up with the idea of "energy soap" was by looking at some energy drink cans. I thought it would be cool to come up with soap packaging inspired by the cans I saw. I wanted to come up with a package that sat up tall and was thin. I'm not sure on how much that's conveyed in my design, but that was my original thought.

The package itself, was made mostly out of plastic folders I found at Wal-Mart, and the rest of it is transparency paper, on which I printed my logo and text. The plastic wasn't the easiest thing to work with. I was difficult at times to fold and it didn't want to stick to the glue I was using either. I plan on improving my design and cleaning up the construction of it so I can use it for my portfolio.

Well that's it for now, but I'm about to start work on a few new major projects coming up. In Graphic Design, we're about to start work on a C.D. design and packaging project, which I'm very excited about. That's what I would love to do as a career! Another project is for my 2-D class. We're starting a nature study where we are to create book visually describing something living found in nature. I think I've decided on doing my study on tree bark, but we'll see. The final thing on my to do list is some Pro-Bono work for the NBYG (North Boulevard Youth Group). I'm going to create a poster and some promotional pieces for them to use. I'm looking forward to doing some work for them, even if it is for free.

From Semesters Past

I've not had much art work to post recently, but I'm wanting to post some more. So I decided that I would post some of the work I did from the past couple of semesters.

This was a project where we had to create a snapshot like USA Today uses in their paper.

Above is the TIME cover I created. The cover story was about To Write Love On Her Arms and pictured on the cover is one of my favorite bands, Paramore!

Next, is a project I did where we had to create a c.d. single layout. We were given a song off a Christmas Compilation album where artists did covers of hit Christmas songs. I got the song "Last Christmas" originally by Wham, but redone by a band called Pas/Cal. We had to create the front and back cover, the inside booklet, and the actual c.d. itself. The photos below is what I came up with.
Well, I think that's all for now. Hopefully next time I'll have some new work to show.
